Reusable and Compostable Cups

WOMADelaide has pioneered sustainability efforts by replacing disposable cups with reusable and compostable alternatives. Through this initiative, the festival has:

Prevented the use of over 150,000 single-use cups
Eliminated more than 1.25 tonnes of plastic waste
Partnered with Bettercup to offer reusable solutions

Zero-Waste-To-Landfill Commitment

WOMADelaide is committed to achieving a zero-waste-to-landfill status. Currently diverting 97.5% of waste away from landfills, they’re almost there!

The festival’s waste management strategy focuses on using biodegradable and recyclable materials. Compostable cups, utensils, and packaging are mandated, and waste is sorted on-site to make sure it’s properly disposed of.

Embodying the Circular Economy

WOMADelaide is an example of the circular economy in action. In 2014, they introduced fully compostable cups to all bars, as well as a range of other compostable food packaging options. But more than that, having the right waste bins on-site makes sure each product is properly disposed of.

Not only that, WOMADelaide offers reusable cups and water bottles, eliminating the sale of single-use plastic bottles.
